Silicone proximity wristbands and an NFC reader shorten the time of logging into the system tenfold

One of our clients decided to use NFC technology in the currently used software for the catering industry.
Problem
The implemented IT system supporting restaurant management requires waiters to interact with the terminal. The terminal is used every time a restaurant employee enters or settles a previously entered order. Before using the terminal, the waiter is required to log in to the system, which takes up to ten seconds. Taking into account the number of employees and the number of authorization operations per day, it was estimated that several dozen hours are spent on employee authorization operations on a monthly basis. Of course, the one-time terminal blocking time is also important, which translates into the speed of order processing and, ultimately, the level of customer satisfaction.
Solution
NFC technology made it possible to reduce the login time of a restaurant employee from ten seconds to one second. The client decided to use it
NFC reader
with USB interface and
silicone proximity wristbands
. The reader we offer does not require the installation of drivers/software. Data reading, resulting in the output of values on the terminal screen, comes down to bringing the NFC chip close in the form of a tag, wristband or proximity card. The described functionality, i.e. keyboard emulation, works in any application running on a computer with the Windows operating system.
Costs
NFC reader
emulating a keyboard automatically, it can be integrated with any software, so there was no need to make any changes to the existing IT system supporting the running of the restaurant. The total investment cost (reader + 10 proximity wristbands) was less than PLN 150 net.
It is worth remembering that one NFC transponder (here
proximity wristband
) can be used to operate many IT systems at the same time, but this is a topic for a separate article…
